TD Summer Reading Club: New Website!

May 07, 2024

The TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC) team is excited to launch a new website this summer! The new site modernizes library registration and provides online participation data at a local level. It will also introduce parent/caregiver accounts and allow for more interactivity on the kids’ site.

For kids

The kids’ site will launch June 10 with the same fun activities as in past years, including jokes, silly stories, story starters and Battle of the Books. This summer, kids will be able to reply to each other’s comments on the site, which will increase interactivity and support a vibrant community of readers. All kid-submitted content, including comments, will continue to be moderated before being published to the site. Kids will also be able to track their time spent reading if they choose.

For parents and caregivers

New this year, parents and caregivers will have the option of creating a parent account to link to multiple kids’ accounts. This feature will allow parents and caregivers to easily navigate between multiple kids’ accounts and will also enable password recovery. Parents and caregivers will be asked to enter and verify their email addresses, which library staff will be able to access. More than one parent account can be linked to a kid’s account. Kids will continue to have anonymous accounts with no identifiable information attached and are not required to link to a parent/caregiver account. As in past years, participants are not required to register online.

For libraries

In mid to late summer, library staff will be asked to create a staff site account and to claim the libraries they are responsible for. Libraries will need to do the following:

·       assign a staff person to administer the account

·       ensure that person is signed up to our staff newsfeed (sign up is at the bottom of the page)

·       register as a region (with many systems), a library system (with many branches) or an individual library

·       have the person in your organization who is responsible for privacy and security review the roles and responsibilities for libraries and other parties outlined in the Privacy Statement  for the site

Account administrators will be able to view and download information about their participating library users, including their reading progress (books read and time spent reading), online activity, parent/caregiver email addresses and customer satisfaction and program impact survey results.

Libraries can only be claimed under one staff person’s account. Individual library records will capture separate contact information for material orders and the staff survey, which we will continue to use to collect program registration and participation statistics.

Please email clubtd-tdclub@bac-lac.gc.ca if you would like to let us know in advance the name of the person authorized to claim your library. The TDSRC team will moderate account creation submissions before approving.

Closer to the launch, we will share more detailed information via the staff newsfeed about the new site, including a recorded staff webinar.
